“I have a passion for dancing.
I would like to be
an advocate for people like me. ”
Meet Sean
I am Seán Upton. I am 23 years old and I have been a member of Traces Dance Ensemble since 2011. I am an actor, artist and dancer.
I attend the Brothers of Charity Day Services, Art Connects Programme. We have exhibited our artwork at The Central Library and at GOMA. Last year I took part in the “Strictly Spooky” Brothers of Charity dance show and also performed in their film, “Let’s Get Real”.
When I was a pupil at St Mary’s N.S. Ballygunner I played “Young Shrek”, in their production of “Shrek, the Musical “. I also took part in “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat” while a pupil at De La Salle College. I attended two drama schools, Theatre Box and WAMA until I was eighteen and performed in their end of year shows.
Most recently I performed in the play “Up Down Boy”, a David Hennessy Musical and Dramatic Society production. I won Best Male Performance in an Amateur Drama at the Waterford News and Star Green Room Awards 2025 for that performance.
I have always loved dancing. When I hear music I just want to dance, no matter where I am. In Traces Dance Ensemble I dance with my friends which is so enjoyable. We have joined other dance groups, e.g. Akasha Dancers, for some performances. We learn from each other. We have performed at The Wexford Opera House, Draíocht Theatre in Dublin and as part of Cruinniú na nÓg festival.
One of my favourite shows was 10/10 at St. Patrick’s Gateway. We worked with four professional dancers to create the show. It was an amazing experience. I also loved performing at some of the Spraoi Festivals. Through our dancing in Traces, we have learned how to connect with each other and our audiences. I am so excited to be part of the GLÓR project.
